In Ontario designated substances are governed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and specific regulations are made under this Act for each listed substance.
Under the current Health and Safety Act, a designated substance survey of building materials must be performed prior to commencing a renovation or demolition project. Additionally a control program must be instituted where any of the listed substances are used in a manufacturing process.
